Bayou La Batre, AL (collected off the Internet)

You might have heard the name Bayou La Batre which was immortalized in the book and film "Forrest Gump." It's located near the coast of Alabama just south of Mobile (click on map to the right for a larger image). It's known as the "Seafood Capital of Alabama" and commerical fishing/shrimping and seafood processing are the major industry. The water is the livelihood of most people in this community. It was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. Boats were tossed about like toys and buildings were demolished:

this was and always will be my home. i now live in VA. and have for a year. i was so upset when i saw what had happened to my little town that i love so much. i hope that one day it will be restored to the origional beauty and grace-fish smell-that it once had...love melissa robins
